About Travel Budget Buddy

Travel Budget Buddy came from experience. We've been there — planning a big trip, getting excited about all the places we could go, then trying to work out whether the money would actually stretch far enough. Flights, hostels, food, buses, activities, nights out and the unexpected all add up, and juggling those numbers while trying to plan the adventure of a lifetime can quickly take some of the fun out of it.

We also know that travelling rarely goes exactly to plan — and that's part of the adventure. You might fall in love with somewhere and want to stay another week, decide an expensive destination isn't worth the hit to your budget, or discover somewhere completely unexpected along the way. A travel budget needs flexibility, not a spreadsheet that assumes every decision has already been made.

That's why we created Travel Budget Buddy: a place where you can plan your trip for free, experiment with different destinations and see what's possible with the money you actually have. Add countries, change how long you stay, adjust your spending and explore different combinations. Whether you have three weeks or twelve months, the idea is simple: give you the freedom to explore the opportunities around the world while keeping your finances firmly in sight.

And this is only the beginning. We're developing a Travel Budget Buddy app so you can take your plans with you wherever you go. We're also working towards live travel budgeting, allowing you to record your actual spending while you're away and compare it with your original plan. Buddy will be able to tell you how you're doing, recalculate what you have available for the rest of your adventure and help you adjust when your plans inevitably change.

Ultimately, we want Travel Budget Buddy to be useful before you leave and every day you're away — helping you plan confidently, spend intelligently and make the most of whatever travel budget you have.
